Being the meeting place of the warm, south-flowing coastal Leeuwin Current and the cool water of the Southern Ocean, this region supports a great variety of species. This mixing zone attracts large concentrations of birds, large fish and marine mammals to feed - it is home to over fifteen species of toothed whale and dolphins, as well as eight species of baleen whale.
